Volunteer With Us
At Rooks to Cooks we value the contributions, support and skills of our wonderful volunteers. Without them, we could not deliver such a successful program. We have designed our program in such a way that volunteers are able to gain valuable skills and experience while also helping us provide a top notch experience for our campers.
Volunteer Program

The volunteer program is for people 16+ who are interested in supporting a variety of activities, giving you a well-rounded experience that showcases many aspects of childrens’ and culinary programming. For youth working towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, you can complete your required community service hours with us if that interests you.

It has been very rewarding seeing volunteers
join the Rooks to Cooks family as paid staff members who discovered their passion for culinary education with us as volunteers, some of whom even started as campers and CITs. We encourage people who are interested in joining as staff down the road, to volunteer with us and get a taste of camp!

Volunteer Role & Duties
Volunteers must commit to at least 2 weeks, but are welcome to stay longer. First and foremost volunteers are assigned to tasks on a needs-basis. This means that you could be assigned to a variety of general tasks.
The following list includes common volunteer duties:
  • Assist Staff with supervision of campers (during cooking, outside, craft time...)
  • Assist staff with classroom management when needed
  • Assist kitchen staff as needed. This may include dishwashing, receiving food orders, inventory, cleaning, measuring…
  • Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the environment (sweeping, cleaning spills, helping campers clean their stations)
  • Assist with pop-up restaurant preparation (crafts, learning roles, set up…)
  • And more!
Please note: Unlike our CIT program, volunteers are not assigned to a specific area and may be asked to do a variety of tasks. This means that volunteers may be working directly with children for some parts of the day, and then go “back of house” to help with kitchen tasks. We understand that everyone comes with their unique skills and comfort levels, however, we cannot accommodate volunteers who only want to work with the kids, or only want to work in the kitchen. If you are a youth 14-18 and feel like that is something you want, please check out our Chef and Counsellor in Training (CIT) Programs page for more information.
