Allergies
Rooks to Cooks does not use peanuts or tree nuts in any of our programs. While we take allergies seriously, we cannot guarantee that all allergy-inducing ingredients can be completely removed from our recipes. We ask that parents speak to our staff about any known allergies prior to the start of the program. Our goal is to work closely with parents and campers to ensure that the necessary precautions are taken so every student can have a safe and enjoyable experience
How We Handle Allergies:
- Campers with unique allergies that require specialty modifications must enroll with a buddy or sibling who is comfortable preparing modified recipes.
- The ingredient in question will be omitted from the camper’s products whenever possible. If omission isn’t feasible, Rooks to Cooks will provide a list of suitable alternatives for the parent or guardian to source and supply for their child.
- In the rare case that there is no appropriate alternative is available, the recipe will need to be prepared as written, taken home by the camper and not consumed on-site. In the case of a lunch item, an alternative lunch will need to be supplied by the parent or guardian.
- We cannot adjust or modify the entirety of a program for severe allergies. For example, we cannot remove sesame from an entire class in the case of an airborne sesame allergy, or remove flour entirely for a camper with Celiac disease.
- Although we take every precaution to minimize risk, our facilities are shared spaces and therefore complete protection against cross-contamination cannot be guaranteed.
Gluten & Dairy-Free:
Rooks to Cooks is committed to supporting campers with gluten or dairy sensitivities whenever possible. We work closely with parents and campers to provide guidance on which programs are best suited for their child and ensure a safe and inclusive kitchen experience.
- Some programs can be modified to be gluten-free or dairy-free, while others cannot. These programs are clearly identified. In programs where substitutions are not feasible, recipes must be prepared as written.
- Campers that require specialty modifications must enroll with a buddy or sibling who is comfortable preparing modified recipes.
- Rooks to Cooks will provide a list of suitable alternatives for the parent or guardian to source and supply for their child.
- Using alternative ingredients may affect the final results of the recipes.
Vegetarian & Vegan Diets:
Rooks to Cooks is committed to supporting campers who follow a vegetarian diet. A vegetarian alternative is offered for all recipes, ensuring that every camper can fully participate in our programs. While not required, we encourage vegetarian campers to enroll with a designated buddy or friend, as this helps streamline group pairings on day one and ensures smoother preparation of modified recipes. For campers following a vegan diet, we encourage families to review our dairy-free policy for further guidance. Vegan campers are required to enroll with a designated buddy and will follow the same procedures outlined for dairy-free participants. In cases where recipes involve eggs that cannot be modified, vegan campers will be expected to prepare the recipe as written. Parents and guardians are encouraged to contact our customer service team for additional guidance and support in planning for their child’s participation.
Halal & Kosher Diets
Rooks to Cooks is unable to source Halal or Kosher meat for our programs. If a Halal or Kosher camper attends with a buddy or sibling, we can work with the parent or guardian to source appropriate Halal or Kosher meat products and modify recipes wherever possible, allowing the camper to participate and execute the menus to the fullest.Halal or Kosher campers without a designated buddy, or who choose not to supply their own Halal or Kosher meats, will prepare the vegetarian alternative when applicable.
